About the parish

A community of prayer in the unbroken tradition of the Church.

A multi-generational Orthodox parish in northern New Jersey, founded in 1948 by Lebanese and Russian immigrants. We worship in English with Arabic and Slavonic for the great feasts. Visitors and inquirers are warmly welcomed at every service.

Our parish

Rooted in Holy Tradition, alive to those who come.

Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church is a Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese parish serving the faithful of Brookfield and the surrounding region. We are a community of converts and cradle Orthodox, families and singles, the young and the old — gathered around the Holy Mysteries of the Church.

Whether you are exploring Orthodoxy for the first time, returning after time away, or seeking a parish home, you are welcome here. Come and see.

"The Church is not a museum of saints but a hospital for sinners."

— Attributed to St. Abba Moses the Black

What we hold

Three things our parish is known for.

One

Worship in fullness

The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom each Sunday, the full liturgical cycle through Great Lent and Holy Week, and the daily services of the Hours as our schedule permits.

Two

Catechesis with care

Inquirers and catechumens are received personally by the rector. Formation moves at the pace of the soul, not a calendar — though most catechumens are received within twelve to eighteen months.

Three

Community in continuity

Coffee hour after every Sunday Liturgy, monthly potlucks, festal celebrations, and the regular work of a parish that takes care of its own — through illness, grief, baptisms, and weddings.

Clergy

Serving the parish.

Rector

Fr. James Avramidis

Father James was ordained to the priesthood in 2014 and has served as rector of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church since 2018. He holds a Master of Divinity from St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary.

Father is available for confessions by appointment, and welcomes inquirers to meet with him before or after services.
